Help Immigrants in Our Community

February 24, 2017

Dear friends,

In more than 20 years working with marginalized immigrants I’ve never been as concerned as I am now.  Things are headed in a dangerous direction and I’m disheartened by the toll this wave of discrimination and hate is taking on our communities.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed to the point of tuning out, but we cannot do that.  We must not do that.  Think about how people in a choir sustain a note longer than is humanly possible.  They learn to take breathing breaks at staggered times so the note plays on even as individuals stop singing momentarily.  This is what we must do.  Individually we may feel powerless but together we can keep pushing and advocating for the world we want.  We must share the task of standing up for what is right and good, what our faiths command, and we need to sustain each other for the long haul that lies ahead.

Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.   ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This is a critical time.
We know the wonderful things that happen when we welcome the stranger because are doing just that in our Houses of Hospitality.  Currently we are providing community and care for 30 men and women from 15 countries.  That’s why we need your support.  With your gift you’ll be saying no to hate and yes to building beloved community.  Join us now.

Light and Blessings,
